Assassin’s Creed Review: Still Not A Good Video Game Movie

The expectations for Assassin’s Creed movie to vindicate the bad history of video game movie adaptation were high. After a worldwide release since December, we finally have the verdict and guess what? It’s no surprise there!

Assassin’s Creed movie was a film adaptation on one of the most popular video games in the world with the same name. The game was first released in 2007 and was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. The movie was released last December 14, 2016 in Hollywood and around the world by January 2017.

The fate of humanity rests on a missing apple. Yes, an apple. But its no ordinary apple, it is an Apple of Eve,an object straight out of the pages of Genesis and is, according to the film’s lore, the key to free will. The Knights Templar want it so they can rule the world. The Assassins on the other hand will risk their life and limbs to protect the relic from the Templars.

When Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society. Cool right?

What made the game so different and interesting were the stars of the series, the assassins. In the movie, the glorious parkour and violence shown were really nice but lacks the “Wow” factor ( they should have at least given it more time but nooo…skip to the next scene) Did you see Maria? She is a figure of art and grace, mysterious and not to mention bad-ass!

The storyline of the film was a labyrinth that I find confusing, the switches between the past and the present didn’t really connect the dots about what’s happening. Plus most part of the film was also busy being talky, they concentrated to conversations that aren’t really necessary.

Assassin’s Creed was not bad for a video game adaptation, but it failed to make a name on top, it also  proved that “a video game movie is still a bad idea”. Well, we never know what happens in the near future but hopefully we’d finally get a good film if anyone else tries to make another video game movie.
